Cops: Teen Found Dead Had Road Rash, Internal Injuries

MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Investigators released the disturbing autopsy results Monday of a local teenager who died. Family members found 17-year-old Hugo Can dead in his Sorrento home last Monday and that night someone had made a mysterious 911 call from his phone.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office has narrowed down the cause of the teen's death to one of three things; Hugo Can either fell out, jumped out, or was shoved out of a moving vehicle.

Deputies have no suspects in the case, but they do have plenty of questions.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is still trying to make sense of the mysterious death. Autopsy results indicate the Mount Dora High School student had a fractured skull, a ruptured stomach and other injuries. Detectives said Can also was covered in what looked like road rash.

"With those types of injuries, coupled with the fact that there was no deep tissue injuries, no signs of any blunt forced trauma or anything like that, and the fact that his abrasions were consistent with road rash, that led detectives to believe he came out of a moving vehicle," said John Herrell, Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The night of Can's death a 911 call was made from his cell phone. A girl called dispatch and asked for help, but the call was disconnected. The call recording is now being analyzed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

The victim's family is not being cooperative with investigators. In fact, the sheriff's office has no idea where they are. After the death, Can's family moved out of their Sorrento home.

"Detectives went to the grave site service today and none of the family was there except for the grandmother. So, I mean, it really is a mystery, and the family is not being very forthcoming, detectives feel like," Herrell said.

Detectives say it is bizarre the family victim's family has disappeared. WFTV is trying to find out why they have left town and if they are suspected of any wrongdoing.
