POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Divers with the Polk County Sheriff's Office found the body of a missing boater whose boat overturned in a Lake Alfred late Saturday afternoon.
Investigators said 30-year-old Earl McCaplin had been fishing with his 10-year-old son in Lake Rochelle near Highway 17 and Highway 92.
According to deputies, McCaplin's boat tipped and capsized while they were fishing, sending both him and his son into the water.
The 10-year-old, who was wearing a life vest, was able to swim to shore and alert a nearby shop owner after his father did not surface.
Deputies spent most of the day Saturday searching the lake for McCaplin. Officials said his body was recovered by divers around 4:30pm.
