Feds: Crashed Kissimmee Plane Had Leak Problem

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — A preliminary report issued by the National Transportation Safety Board indicates a small plane that crashed earlier this month had been recently repaired.

Officials said the 1963 Fouga CM-170 Magister had several hydraulic leaks, which had been repaired shortly before the Feb. 2 crash that killed 61-year-old Wilson Lentz Jr. and Carl Vernon.

The agency based its findings on radar data, air traffic control transmissions and witness interviews.

No distress call was received from the plane. Officials said Lentz and Vernon were thrown from the plane on impact so they don't know which man was the pilot.
