FHP: Driver Hits Cars, Crashes Into Amscot

ORLANDO, Fla.,None — An SUV crashed through the front glass wall of the Amscot at the corner of Orange Blossom Trail and Clarcona Ocoee Road, leaving behind a massive gaping hole Friday evening.

Firefighters, police, and state troopers rushed to the scene just after 5:00 p.m. The business was packed full of customers when the car crashed through the store front.

“I heard a loud crash, looked around, and there was a car sitting there. He was still in there pressing the gas, spinning his wheels, smoked up the building,” said customer Kendra Smith.

Witnesses told Eyewitness News the crash started across Orange Blossom Trail when the driver, Karlton Coleman, rear-ended a pickup at a red light and wouldn’t hit the brake. Officials say he kept revving his engine, then the light turned green.

“I was trying to get away from him. He hit me and hit the other woman,” said driver Yvonne Williams.

Afterwards, police say that's when Coleman slammed into the Amscot.

Coleman was rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive. Officials say there were no other injuries reported during the incident.

Troopers are trying to determine if the 52-year-old driver had a medical issue that led to the crash.
