ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol troopers joined federal and state agencies in a coordinated overnight commercial vehicle enforcement operation along the I- 95 corridor, resulting in dozens of drivers and vehicles being taken out of service.
Operation Saturday Night Fever was held overnight on Sept. 26, focusing on unsafe drivers, hazardous vehicles, and violations by commercial trucks, according to FHP.
Officials stated that inspectors concentrated on issues such as driver fatigue, tampering with electronic logging devices, mechanical faults, impaired or distracted driving, violations in cargo safety, and English proficiency standards.
Across the multistate operation, agencies performed 552 inspections. Officials shared that 78 drivers were taken out of service, with 12 of those due to English-language-proficiency issues. Additionally, 25 vehicles were also taken out of service.
Authorities also reported seven criminal arrests and 11 ICE detentions.
FHP Col. Gary Howze said the operation aimed to remove unsafe commercial drivers and hold them accountable for illegal practices.
