Duke Energy bills set to drop in 2027

New tax strategies helped the utility company avoid a previously scheduled base rate increase for 2027

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Duke Energy Florida customers can expect savings in the new year, with a typical residential bill in January 2027 coming in $33 lower than in January 2026.

The Florida Public Service Commission approved the reductions, which include a tax strategy that helps avoid a previously scheduled 2027 base rate increase.

Here’s what residential customers using 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month can expect:

  • January bills will be about $0.95 lower than December 2026 bills—and $33 lower than January 2026 bills.
  • From March through November 2027, an additional $10 monthly reduction will provide relief during months when electricity use is typically highest.

Actual savings will depend on electricity use. Commercial and industrial customers will see decreases ranging from 0.9% to 3.8%, depending on their service.

“In addition to lowering rates in 2027, we’ll continue working to strengthen our system and further improve the reliability we know our customers count on,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida’s state president.

Duke serves about 2 million customers across Florida and offers flexible payment plans and free home and business energy assessments through its website.
