Watch: Orange County officials give update on COVID-19 pandemic

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Officials in Orange County are giving an update following the release of the latest coronavirus numbers within the county.

The county saw 689 new cases as of Wednesday afternoon, bringing the county’s total to 24,700 -- the most in Central Florida.

There were also 44 coronavirus-related deaths reported Wednesday.

Orange County’s overall positivity rate is 10.4%.

County officials recent announced their intent to hire 100 more contact tracers to help meet the demand of more positive COVID-19 tests in the area.

The health department hopes to hire people who have recently lost their job, and can begin working immediately.

County leaders also recently discussed fining residents up to $500 or a sentence of 60 days in jail or both to those who don’t adhere to the face mask mandate in an effort to slow the spread.
