Isleworth Murder Suspect Loses Home

None — Millionaire murder suspect Bob Ward officially lost his home Tuesday. Ward lost his multi-million dollar Isleworth mansion to foreclosure when it went on the auction block Tuesday.

Ward is accused of murdering his wife last year inside his former home.

The bank officially took ownership of the home on Isleworth Country Club Drive, but Ward still lives in the neighborhood.

He lives about a half-mile away from the house where his wife, Diane, was shot to death with his gun. The Wards bought the mansion, which once belonged to legendary golfer Arnold Palmer, for more than $4 million, but then stopped paying their mortgage around the time his business filed for bankruptcy.

Wards' mansion went on the auction block with an opening bid of $100, and he's now a tenant in Isleworth, but not an owner.

Wachovia Mortgage Company expected to walk away with the 12,500-square foot house without a fight, but then, a bit of a bidding war ensued.

"Two-million, one-hundred thousand!" bidder Anwar Mohammed said.

That forced Wachovia to up its bid, which increased its fees by more than $15,000, because they're based on percentages.

"Why would you want that house? Do you plan to live in it or would you sell it?" WFTV reporter Kathi Belich asked Mohammed.

"I would sell it," he replied.

A Budget moving truck was outside Ward's former home, which is assessed at $3.5 million. He's moved right down the street to a million-dollar home, one-third the size, and is owned by investors.

Ward was arrested last September, hours after telling a 911 operator that he had shot his wife in their bedroom. He later said she shot herself as he tried to stop her.

After exhibiting giddy behavior during jail visits with his daughter, and his dead wife's sister, he posted $100,000 bond, strapped on a GPS ankle monitor and he's been free to roam Orange County ever since.

The mansion was on the market even before the alleged murder.

Ward's defense team delayed his trial from February. There's a status hearing in August. The trial is expected to happen sometime this fall.
