Legoland Florida Launches Online Ticket Sales

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Legoland Florida in Polk County launched its online ticket sales Thursday. The park is taking over the old Cypress Gardens land in Winter Haven and is set to open in October 2011.

From now until the end of the year, tickets will cost $65 for adults and $55 for kids, 3 to 12 years old. After that, prices will go up to $75 and $65.

Park officials insist they'll get their money's worth.

About 40 million Lego pieces will be used inside the park once it's finished.

WFTV took a hardhat tour of the park. There's still a lot of work to be done before Legoland Florida opens the 150-acre park next year.

Managers gave WFTV a virtual sneak peak of nine different lands already in the works. The banks along Lake Eloise will be transformed into Pirates Cove, which will be a water stunt show.

Plans also call for Cypress Gardens' old wooden roller coaster to become a "Coaster-Saurus," surrounded by Lego dinosaurs.

One area of the park will feature models of cities like New York, Washington DC and Las Vegas, with buildings and landmarks.

There will be Lego creations of people on the street, but it will be called "Mini Land," so you'll see it all on a much smaller scale.

Models of the Daytona International Speedway and the Kennedy Space Center will be just part of "Florida Land."

"We will actually add to it with local landmarks, which will remain nameless at this point in time. There's got to be an element of surprise," a Legoland executive said.

Legoland executives were also unwilling to say if Florida residents might be offered a discount. But they didn't hold back on giving us a taste of a Legoland original called "Granny's Apple Fries."

Annual passes will cost $99. A lifetime pass is $2,500.
