1 of 3 victims dies after shooting in Parramore

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police said they are investigating a shooting Tuesday night that killed one man and injured two others.

Police responded to the 700 block of Westmoreland Drive after several people called 911 to report a shooting.

Authorities said one of the victims, Rodney Watts, 49, died Wednesday.

“He was beloved by all and his loss will be felt beyond his family and by the entire neighborhood. The community must continue to come together,” said Commissioner Regina Hill.

Watts was a landscape crew leader for the city of Altamonte Springs Parks Department, officials said.

“We talk about black lives matter, but what we need is for the community to make sure black lives matter to black people,” said Bishop Kelvin Cobanis of Impact Church of Orlando.

Authorities said the two other shooting victims are, Darrian Lewis, 18, who is in stable condition, and Rodney Ryles, 51, who was treated and released.

“Even if we call a cease fire and tell these young men out there to put down their guns and stop doing what they're doing. If we tell them to put something down without giving them something to pick up we are leaving them again hopeless,” said Cobanis.

Police said they do not have a description of the culprit.

Community leaders gathered Wednesday afternoon at a community center near the crime scene to call for anyone with tips in the case to come forward.

Some community leaders believe the violence in Parramore could threaten the livelihood of the whole city.

“If we don't come to the realization and deal with what's going on in Parramore, as far as the crime, these very venues that we're building, people will be afraid to come and attend any event at them. Which means this is collectively a city government issue,” Cobanis said.
