SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — It’s been 12 years since Susan Perkins’ death and her killer has not been caught, Altamonte Springs police said on Wednesday.
"It just brings you right back to that moment when you got that phone call, and finding out what happened, which is just unbelievable, you can't comprehend that,” said Sara Wakefield, Perkins sister.
Perkins and a friend were working at a business at 626 Maitland Avenue in Altamonte Springs on Aug. 31, 2004, when a masked man walked through the front door, police said.
The man held the two at gunpoint, emptied their purses and made both women get into Perkins’ red Ford Focus, police said. The man held them at gunpoint until money was withdrawn from the ATM from the Washington Mutual Bank, police said.
Both victims were ordered into the trunk of the car, and the man drove to Boston Avenue, police said. During that time, both victims used the emergency latch on the trunk to jump out. The first victim got out, but Perkins hit her head on the pavement when she got out and died, police said.
The man did not stop, police said. Perkins’ vehicle was later found at 585 Maitland Avenue in Altamonte Springs.
“I would give anything to know what happened and to be able to look that person in the eye and know that there is justice for her,” Wakefield sister.
A $5,000 reward has been offered for any information on her death or information on the man.
