19-year-old woman dies after being thrown from motorcycle on I-95 in Volusia County

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly motorcycle crash on I-95.

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 19-year-old Orange City woman died Tuesday night after being thrown from a motorcycle and struck by a semi-truck.

The incident happened around 9:06 p.m. on Interstate 95, near mile marker 272, in Volusia County.

State troopers reported that the motorcycle, a 2026 Kawasaki Z900, was traveling southbound in the center lane ahead of a 2023 tractor-trailer.

Troopers said the motorcycle rider was traveling above the posted speed limit and accelerated, causing the female passenger to be thrown off the motorcycle into the direct path of the oncoming truck.

After landing in the center lane, the passenger was struck by the left front of the semi-truck.

State troopers reported that there was no impact between the tractor-trailer and the motorcycle itself and the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 40-year-old man from Orlando and the motorcycle rider, a 23-year-old man from Ormond Beach, were not injured.

Both men remained at the scene following the collision.
