2 charged in Deltona bank robbery

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A man and a woman arrested in connection with a bank robbery in Hillsborough County have been charged with robbing the Fifth Third Bank in Deltona earlier this month.

Wilbert McKnight, 40, of Clearwater, and Angela Martin, 42, of Brandon were arrested following a Brandon bank robbery, Volusia County Sheriff's Office officials said Friday.

Martin told investigators that she was with McKnight on June 15 when the Deltona bank was robbed, investigators said.

Martin told investigators that she didn't know that McKnight planned to rob the bank. She said he had her drive the car to the bank and then go inside to check the layout of the bank and see how many people were inside, according to investigators.

McKnight then went into the bank, jumped over the counter, ordered people to the ground, demanded money and then ran outside, where he jumped into the trunk of the car and told Martin to drive away, investigators said.

When it was reported that the robber in the Brandon bank robbery was wearing a motorcycle helmet, Volusia investigators noted that it was the same disguise used five days earlier in the Deltona robbery.

McKnight is charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon, in the Deltona bank robbery, while Martin is charged with principal to robbery with a deadly weapon in the same incident
