DE LEON SPRINGS, Fla. — An elderly was found dead inside a home in De Leon Springs, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they were performing a well-being check about 6 p.m. Wednesday at the home on the 5600 block of Winona Trail and it turned into a death investigation.
No one was answering the door, so deputies made their way into the home about 7 p.m. and found the unidentified couple dead inside.
Deputies identifed the couple as Foye Stacey and his wife Jenella Stacey, both 83.
Deputies said they received a call from the couple's son, who had received an email from his father saying that he had shot his wife.
In the email, the father referenced both of them being dead, leading the son to believe his father was about to take his own life.
The father had recently suffered from a stroke and had other health issues, deputies said.
The son told deputies he spoke to his mother on Tuesday and everything seemed fine, but when he called Wednesday, no one answered.
Deputies believe the couple's death may have been the result of a murder-suicide.
Autopsies were expected to be done Thursday by the Volusia County Medical Examiner.
