3 charged in February killing of Sanford man

SANFORD, Fla. — Months after a man was killed in Sanford, police announced they've made three arrests in the case.

Jerald Todd, 28, was shot and killed on West 12th Street, about a block from the police department in February.

Sanford police Chief Cecil Smith said a call to Crimeline helped crack the case.

Deveicon Burke, Gayland Young and Dy'quaries Jones are all facing homicide charges.

Detectives said they got a lot of tips to help them track Burke down, but they still have not said how Todd ended up getting shot and whether he was the intended target.

Jones and Young were already in jail on separate charges.

Todd, 28, a business man and father, was shot dead in Sanford’s historic Goldsboro neighborhood steps away from his home.

“He was probably just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” said Todd's mother, Pamela Jewels. “I just want to know why (they did that to him) because he didn’t deserve that.”

Todd's family told Channel 9 they want to thank everyone for helping them get justice.

"I would like to thank the community, the ones that gave us information and helped us support the case," said Jewels.

Jewels said living close to where her son was shot has been difficult on the family.

“We have to look where he laid at, you know, where they took his life at. It’s very hard,” she said.

Burke was arrested at the corner of 14th Street and Oleander Avenue.
