ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Three deputies were taken to a hospital Tuesday after being exposed to an unknown substance while serving an arrest warrant at the Orange County Courthouse, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident prompted an evacuation of the courthouse’s first floor while Orlando Fire Department crews assessed the scene.
Sheriff’s officials said deputies discovered an unknown substance on the person they were arresting. After coming into contact with the substance, the deputies began feeling ill.
Out of an abundance of caution, the deputies were transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Earlier, Orlando Fire Department officials said they were responding to a suspicious substance near the courthouse and that three patients had been taken to a hospital.
Authorities have not identified the substance, and the investigation remains ongoing.
