ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) crews completed repairs to the water main break in the area of Garland Avenue and State Road 50 just after midnight Wednesday.
A precautionary boil-water advisory issued Tuesday will remain in effect for the following areas until 5 p.m. on Thursday, or otherwise notified by OUC:
- Marks St. on the north side
- West Concord St. on the south side
- Orange Ave. on the east side
Workers for SGL Construction were installing a trench box as part of the I-4 Ultimate project when they hit the water main, causing it to burst, OUC spokesman Tim Trudell said.
OUC crews assessed the damage and the break was isolated, officials said.
OUC and I-4 Ultimate project officials said SGL was responsible for the break.
"There's certainly going to be some cost. Not only are you talking about the actual volume of water, but the repair. We have a lot of crew out here working very hard," Trudell said.
For the foreseeable future, water customers in the area of the break should boil any water used for drinking, cooking, making ice or coffee, brushing teeth and washing dishes, OUC said.
The water should be boiled for at least two minutes until the advisory is lifted, it said.
The water is safe for bathing.
Customers experiencing water quality issues should report them to OUC or call OUC at 407-423-9018.
