4-year-old Apopka girl dies after being struck by SUV in driveway

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal Apopka driveway crash that killed a 4-year-old.

APOPKA, Fla. — A 4-year-old girl from Apopka died Wednesday evening after being struck by an SUV in a home’s driveway.

The incident happened around 7:14 p.m. at Robinson Avenue and 13th Street.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 37-year-old Apopka woman was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse at the time of the crash.

The driver was reportedly unaware that the child was standing next to the vehicle’s right rear passenger door before she began moving forward.

This movement caused the child to fall and subsequently be struck by the vehicle.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the woman remained at the scene following the crash.

Emergency responders transported the child to Arnold Palmer Hospital.

Medical staff at the facility later pronounced the girl dead.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
