PLANT CITY, Fla. — Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputies said a 4-year-old boy from Ocoee has died after he drowned during a wedding reception he was attending with his parents.
Investigators said the victim, Nathan McGee, was last seen just before 7 p.m. Friday evening on the dance floor at Kathleen’s Garden and Grandpa’s Event Barn in Plant City when he wandered off, unnoticed.
The boy’s parents soon realized he was missing and began a search.
McGee’s father spotted him unconscious in a small pond on the property and pulled him from the water.
An off-duty Pasco County firefighter who was also attending the wedding performed CPR on the boy until paramedics arrived.
Despite attempts to save the boy’s life, he later died at the hospital.
Hillsborough County Child Protective Investigators are working to determine whether criminal neglect might have been a factor.
