SANFORD, Fla. — There’s been more fallout for a Sanford 7-Eleven store where Facebook video appeared to show roaches crawling on the hot dogs.

A report from the State Division of Food Safety outlined seven health violations for the store on West 25th Street and Airport Boulevard.

An inspector did not find roaches, but noted several examples of improper food storage and lack of cleanliness, including heavy dust buildup on ceilings over an open sandwich case.

The report also noted that the employees were not knowledgeable about food borne illnesses.

Other violations included a lack of an accessible handwashing sink for employees and toxic materials not properly stored.

Chris Fiorenza said he had no intention of bad mouthing the Sanford store where he would stop nearly every day, but he couldn’t ignore what he saw earlier this month in the hot dog roller grill.

“There was one roach crawling up on the glass that you can see clear and about three roaches that were actually on the hot dogs,” he said.

He posted the video on a community Facebook page that caught the attention of city officials who requested a state inspection the next day.

Even though Fiorenza said he’s been told by store management he can’t come back, he doesn’t regret posting the video and hopes others do the same.

“Everybody needs to be aware,” he said.

Channel 9 contacted 7-Eleven’s corporate office, which said despite the violations, the store still passed inspection.

The office released a statement that said, “The health and safety of our customers is of the utmost importance. The store received a 'pass' on its health inspection on August 2. We are investigating the matter and will ensure it is handled appropriately.”
