VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A precautionary boil-water notice has been issued Wednesday for Volusia County Utilities customers in Orange City and DeBary, according to county officials.
Officials said 7,500 homes are affected by the notice.
Around 4 a.m. the county's water treatment plant in DeBary experienced a temporary loss in pressure after a mechanical failure. Officials said pressure has been restored.
Officials said residents should bring cooking or drinking water to a rolling boil for one minute before using it, or use bottled water.
Resident Heidi Browning said she wasn't notified and is furious.
The county is sampling the water to test the quality.
Officials said they don't know when the boil-water notice will be rescinded.
Volusia County Utilities provides water to homes and businesses in DeBary that don't have private wells.
In Orange City, the county provides water to a small percentage of homes and businesses that don't receive their water from the city. Officials said only those in Orange City who receive water bills from the county are affected by the boil-water notice.
