VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — About 350 vote-by-mail ballots were affected by a vendor mailing error that sent some Volusia County voters ballots containing contests for another city, the Supervisor of Elections Office said Thursday.
The office is investigating the extent of the problem and plans to send replacement ballots to affected voters Friday.
Based on information available so far, officials said the issue appears limited to a single mailing associated with an Oct. 7 delivery date in the office’s voter registration system.
The ballots are for the Nov. 3 general election.
“I am deeply upset that this vendor’s error has affected our voters. They deserve better,” Supervisor of Elections Lisa Lewis said in a statement.
What affected voters should do
Voters who believe they received an incorrect ballot should call the elections office at 386-736-5930. Staff can review their ballot information and explain the next steps.
The office said voters also have the option to vote in person during early voting or on Election Day.
Early voting is available daily through Oct. 31 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at nine locations throughout Volusia County.
Election Day polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 3. Voters casting ballots that day must go to their assigned polling place.
Elections office investigating
Lewis said the office is taking steps to correct the problem and hold the vendor responsible.
The announcement did not identify the vendor or the cities involved.
“To every voter affected, I am truly sorry for the frustration and concern this has caused,” Lewis said. “You should be able to rely on receiving the correct ballot.”
