CLERMONT, Fla. — An alleged strip mall casino in Clermont was shut down by Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents on Thursday.
From Skywitness 9 agents could be seen carting away suspected gambling equipment from the Cyber Center off County Road 455.
Workers at neighboring businesses said it’s become a familiar sight.
“They’ve been closed once or twice before and they’re closed for maybe three or four months then reopen,” said resident Sandra Rojas.
State officials said this type of illegal strip mall casino is a cancer in the community.
Rojas complained it’s bringing down her salon business.
“Our clients felt scared. It was a different type of people. They dirtied the area,” she said.
Many would-be customers showed up to find the doors locked after the raid.
The business was last raided in April.
The owners were arrested, along with dozens of others as part of a statewide operation to crack down on the illegal enterprise.
