Airbnb brings back anti-party technology for Halloween weekend

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Airbnb is bringing back its anti-party technology for Halloween weekend in an effort to prevent potentially disruptive gatherings at rentals across the United States and Canada.

The company said the technology will identify reservations that may pose a higher risk for unauthorized parties and either block the booking or direct the guest to other accommodations, such as private rooms or hotels.

Airbnb said the system considers several factors when evaluating attempted bookings. The company did not detail all of the factors used by the technology.

This marks the sixth consecutive year Airbnb has increased its anti-party measures for Halloween weekend.

According to Airbnb, its defenses deterred more than 23,500 people in the United States from booking entire homes during Halloween weekend last year.

That included approximately 3,170 people in Florida, according to the company.

Airbnb said disruptive and unauthorized parties are prohibited on its platform year-round. The company said about 0.06% of U.S. reservations in 2025 resulted in a party being reported.

The company is also reminding parents that people under 18 cannot have Airbnb accounts. Airbnb said adults cannot book stays for minors unless the adult remains with them for the entire trip.

Airbnb said violations could result in an account being removed, upcoming reservations being canceled or the account holder being held financially responsible for property damage.
