Altamonte Springs testing wastewater for omicron variant

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — As another case of the omicron variant was found in the U.S., one Central Florida city is already working to determine if the variant has spread here.

Altamonte Springs took its first official wastewater samples this week.

The city has been the lead agency for testing wastewater for more than a year. It uses the results to get a better idea of how widespread certain variants are in the community.

Experts could see lab results as Monday.
