‘America’s Funniest Teacher,’ ‘The Comic Doc’ coming to Ocala Civic Theatre

Mike Rivera and Vien Phommachanh will headline a one-night comedy show Sept. 25

OCALA, Fla. — Two nationally touring comedians with very different day jobs are teaming up for a night of stand-up comedy in Ocala.

Mike Rivera, known as “America’s Funniest Teacher,” and Vien Phommachanh, who performs as “The Comic Doc,” will take the stage Friday, Sept. 25, at Ocala Civic Theatre.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Teacher, doctor turn careers into comedy

Rivera built his comedy career around his experiences as an educator and won ABC’s “Most Hilarious Teacher in America.” He has also appeared on HBO and Showtime. His material focuses on teaching, marriage, parenting and everyday life.

Phommachanh is a practicing ear, nose and throat physician whose comedy draws from medicine, family life and his cultural background. He has performed across the United States and internationally.

His 2024 Dry Bar Comedy special, “Open Up and Say HAH,” has generated more than 4 million views across social media, according to organizers.
