Animal control seizes 25 pigs from Ocala property

OCALA, Fla. — Animal control officials seized 25 sickly pigs from a property near Ocala.

Marion County spokeswoman Elaine McClain said the pigs were in poor condition and officials were concerned for their safety when they took them on Tuesday.

Reports said three piglets were already dead and one was so emaciated that it was convulsing and unable to stand. County officials said it was euthanized.

McClain said animal services officials were contacted about the condition of the pigs in July. They were found to be underweight and the owner was told to get proper veterinary care within 48 hours. The owner was then given time to get the pigs' weight up. When officials visited the property on Tuesday, they found the situation had not improved.
