Assistant principal involved in texting incident no longer with school

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — As students return from spring break Monday, a familiar face will be missing from one Orange County elementary school.

Parents of students at Dr. Phillips Elementary School have received an automated phone call notifying them that the school has a new assistant principal.

The position was previously held by Scott Peters, who stirred up controversy earlier this month with a vulgar text message he sent to the school's principal, which referred to angry female teachers as “vaginas on fire.”

"I'm very happy that it has gone in this direction," said Sherri Gregory, a parent of a student at the school.

Gregory said school leaders set an example for students by how they treat others.

Meredith Leftakis, a former senior administrator in the superintendent's office, will replace Peters as assistant principal.

It's unclear why Peters is no longer with the school and if it’s related to the texting incident.

Neither Peters nor the school district has responded to WFTV's request for comment.
