SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — An assistant finance director in the Seminole County Clerk of Courts Office has been suspended after allegedly posting on social media that State Attorney Aramis Ayala should face the death penalty over her stance in the Markeith Loyd murder case.
The post also called for Ayala to be tarred and feathered over her decision not to seek the death penalty in any case her office prosecutes, including the case against Loyd.
Following the post, Stan McCullars was suspended with pay from the Clerk’s Office.
Jennifer Jacobs was shocked when she found the post, which was made Sunday night.
An Ayala spokesperson told Channel 9 that she had filed a formal complaint against him.
“I was disgusted,” she said. “My gut reaction was, who is this guy?”
After realizing who wrote the comments, Jacobs contacted Seminole County Clerk of Courts, Grant Maloy, who told Channel 9 that he was disappointed by the posting.
“Comments that are racist, or demeaning, aren’t welcome from our office,” he said. “We don’t accept that. It doesn’t represent who we are.”
McCullars future at the Clerk of Courts Office will be decided once an investigation into the posts is completed, Maloy said.
Jacobs disagreed with the decision, saying McCullars should be fired.
“I’m not sure what investigation is necessary,” she said. “(The posts) speak for themselves.”
No one answered at a home believed to belong to McCullars.
Since his suspension, his Facebook and Twitter accounts have both been deleted.
