Baseball star Johnny Damon helps Orange County Little League after funds stolen

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Professional baseball star Johnny Damon went up to bat for 13 Orange County Little League teams Saturday.

Damon stepped up to the plate to help out after he heard someone stole $25,000 needed to rent the fields for their games.

The South Orange County League almost had to put the season on hold.

“It was pretty cool. I’ve never been able to play or catch a ball from a major league player,” said player Steven Boudreault.

Damon heard about what happened to the team via Twitter.

“I had to help out in some way,” Damon said.

So he lent his hands to sign autographs and help raise money for the ream.

He also threw the first pitch of the league’s opening ceremony.

“This is where I fell in love with playing the game of baseball,” Damon said.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating to find out who stole the funds.

The money started slowly disappearing from the league’s account in October and a parent on the Little League board believes it may be an inside job because only certain people had access to the funds.

The money that was stolen from the account was supposed to be used to rent the baseball fields so the children could play.

It was also used to pay for the lights.
