TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A bill that would allow unmarried couples to legally live in the same household in Florida is moving forward.
A House committee approved the measure Wednesday to repeal a law that makes cohabitation illegal.
It's been a part of Florida law for more than 140 years.
A similar bill was proposed last year, but died in committee.
It's estimated that more than a half-million unmarried couples live together in Florida.
