ORLANDO, Fla. — A blockage in a sanitary sewer line caused a back up near Domino Drive and Lipscomb Place in the Lake Mann Estates neighborhood, causing a spill.
Warning signs were posted at Gilbert McQueen Park, along Lake Mann, indicating it's not safe for water activities or lawn irrigation.
The city of Orlando took water samples on Thursday to check for bacteria levels, but the results won't be back for 24 hours.
The city told WFTV the trouble started with a blockage in a sanitary sewer line as a result of grease residue that was likely improperly dumped down a drain.
The streets and storm water division made a repair to the sewer line and cleaned up the streets, but not before nearly 100 gallons of raw sewage spilled into the lake.
Also on Wednesday, the president of the Lake Mann neighborhood association, Ulysses Floyd, said he's concerned about getting the word out.
"I'm very concerned about the young kids," said Floyd.
The city said as soon as it's safe to resume activity, it will post the information on its lake alert page and remove the signs.
