CASSELBERRY, Fla. — The 18th Circuit State Attorney’s Office has released a new video showing the aftermath of a July crash in Casselberry that killed two brothers.
The crash happened on July 7 on U.S. Highway 17-92.
The body camera video shows deputies responding to the scene, pulling the suspect, 26-year-old Marquavious Wheaton, from his overturned rental vehicle and handcuffing him.
The footage also captures deputies reacting to the extensive damage from the crash.
In another part of the video, a deputy tells responders to check the vehicles to make sure no one else is inside.
“Get in there and make sure no one else is in their car,” the deputy says.
The wreckage was so extensive that responders initially were unsure how many vehicles were initially involved.
The two people killed in the crash were brothers Christopher Marier, 42, and Tyler Marier, 40.
According to the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had pulled Wheaton over for a traffic infraction when he allegedly fled.
Deputies said they did not closely pursue Wheaton because of safety concerns. Instead, they followed him by helicopter, which captured the crash on video.
Investigators said Wheaton reached speeds of more than 115 mph while fleeing before crashing into the brothers’ SUV on Highway 17-92.
Wheaton was initially charged with two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of third-degree murder.
Just over a week after the crash, the State Attorney’s Office announced it would move forward with two counts of second-degree murder.
Wheaton, 26, is being held without bond.
He is expected to appear in court again Aug. 25 for a hearing.
