Body of elderly woman discovered in Bayfoot Bay home

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brevard County deputies are investigating a suspicious death in Barefoot Bay on Friday.

Investigators said deputies were called to the residence on Gladiolus Drive to check on an individual who hadn't been seen in a few days. When they arrived they found the body of an elderly woman.

Neighbors watched for hours at investigators worked at the home.

"They've been here since 10 p.m. last night, I know that," said neighbor Bob Lindsell.

Investigators said they are working on getting a positive identification on the woman. They said they know she didn't live alone. Some neighbors said the woman lived with a younger woman and her son.

"I feel bad for the poor woman. She was a nice lady," said neighbor Mary Richman. "I didn't know her that well, but it's scary to have something like this happen in your neighborhood, any neighborhood," said neighbor Mary Richman.

Channel 9's Melonie Holt reports that several people were being interviewed in connection with the woman's death.

Neighbors said they saw the woman's body being removed from a shed.

The immediate area around the home where the body was found was surrounded in crime scene tape.

The Medical Examiner's Office was expected to perform an autopsy Friday afternoon in an attempt to determine the cause of death.

"That would be nice to know; how it happened, how long she's been out there – that we don't know either," said Richman.
