Deputies: 13-year-old boy shot while visiting relatives

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A 13-year-old boy is in critical conditional after being shot while visiting relatives, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The shooting happened Sunday at a home on Spottswood Drive near South Semoran Boulevard and Hoffner Avenue, said Jane Watrel of Orange County Sheriff's Office.

“Shortly after 1 p.m. today, a 13-year-old boy was visiting relatives at their home when the 13-year-old was shot,” Watrel said. “He was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital in critical condition.”

Watrel said in a news release that two 18-year-old relatives started playing with a gun after finding it in the bathroom. The gun went off and the boy was hit.

Watrel says deputies arrested the gun owner, 35-year-old Walter Morame on a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He wasn't home at the time of the shooting. Records don't indicate whether he's hired an attorney.

The incident remains under investigation.
