BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Brevard County Sheriff’s Office officer has been fired after being arrested for driving under the influence in Orange County on Sept. 7.
The sheriff’s office confirmed the termination after arresting deputy Brittany Rowland by Maitland Police. This is her second DUI while employed, having been previously arrested for DUI in 2018.
During the Sept. 7 incident, an officer noted Rowland had bloodshot eyes, a red face, and smelled of alcohol. At 3:24 a.m., she refused a breathalyzer test after officers advised her of the consequences.
Arrest records show Rowland freed her left hand from a cuff in custody, telling an officer, “Put the handcuffs tighter or I’ll do it again,” and threatening to “teach you a lesson and **** up your career.”
Following her 2018 arrest, Rowland was convicted of DUI. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey criticized her and two other employees, calling them “knuckleheads” and saying he was “extremely angered”.
He said their actions reflected poorly on the department and its 1,500 staff, and all three were suspended without pay.
