, Fla. — State health officials are advising residents and visitors to avoid water-related activities at Sebastian Inlet North State Park after testing found elevated bacteria levels.
The Florida Department of Health in Brevard County issued the advisory Friday, Oct. 30, for the location at 9700 South Highway A1A in Melbourne Beach.
Tests completed Oct. 28 found that the water did not meet the Florida Department of Health’s recommended recreational water quality criteria for Enterococcus bacteria, according to the department.
What visitors should know
DOH-Brevard advises against any water-related activities at the location due to an increased risk of illness among swimmers. Samples collected during routine water quality monitoring showed bacteria levels above state guidelines.
The advisory will remain in effect until bacteria levels fall below the accepted health level. The notice did not provide an estimated date for lifting the advisory.
