Suspect in stable condition after deputy-involved shooting, Brevard sheriff’s office said

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The Brevard County sheriff’s office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred early Saturday morning.

According to deputies, the sheriff’s office responded to a call where a female said a suspicious person was outside of her residence on Grant Avenue in Cape Canaveral.

Deputies checked the area, did not locate anyone and cleared the scene.

Approximately 15 minutes later, deputies responded to a second suspicious person call in the area of Ridgewood and Hayes Avenue in Cape Canaveral. A few minutes late a deputy made contact with the suspicious person who was attempting to conceal himself, deputies said.

According to deputies, the suspicious male confronted the deputy, firing at the deputy multiple times from close range. Deputies said, “the suspicious person was then challenged by the second deputy who responded to the lethal threat with deadly force.”

The suspect was transported to the hospital and is in stable condition, deputies said.

According the sheriff’s office, the initial deputy was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation.

The deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, the sheriff’s office said.

According to deputies, the suspect was under a protection order against the original caller and is currently out on bond for a previous criminal charge.
