BUNNELL, Fla. — Two Bunnell police officers have received Life Saving Awards for their actions during separate medical emergencies.
Officer Fallon Ingino was recognized for helping an elderly hospice patient who was struggling to breathe, while Officer Sean Schlobohm was honored for reviving an unresponsive person during a suspected fentanyl overdose.
Ingino was dispatched to a Bunnell home May 1 after the woman’s family had not heard from her since the previous evening.
Police said Ingino received no response at the front door but continued checking around the home until she heard a faint sound from inside. She entered through an unsecured door and found the woman in bed experiencing respiratory distress.
Ingino called Fire Rescue, located the woman’s breathing equipment in another room and helped her use it. The woman was transported to AdventHealth Palm Coast.
The woman later died from medical complications, according to police. Her son told the department that Ingino’s actions kept his mother alive long enough for him to return home and spend time with her before her death.
Schlobohm responded to another Bunnell home Aug. 4, where CPR was being performed on a person experiencing a suspected fentanyl overdose.
The patient remained unresponsive after receiving two doses of naloxone, an overdose-reversal medication commonly sold under the brand name Narcan. Police said Schlobohm administered a third dose and began chest compressions.
The patient eventually began breathing, regained consciousness and was able to speak.
“Our oath is to protect human life, every life, in every circumstance,” Police Chief David Brannon said.
Both officers received standing ovations during the award presentations at a Bunnell City Commission meeting.
