Code Enforcement conducts sweep at Orange County apartment complex

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Channel 9 found out Tuesday that mold, dripping water and rusted stairs are just some of the things people living in the Windsor Cove apartments have to deal with.

Channel 9 was at the complex on Mercy Drive as code enforcement did a sweep.

Residents said they did not want to say much about the issues because they were worried about management retaliating.

"This property has been cited in the past. This owner has been cited in the past," Code Enforcement division manager Mike Rhodes said.

Potholes fill much of the parking lot. Fences are falling apart, weeds have taken over and people living there said the management company has done nothing to fix it.

"A lot of tenants were afraid to call. So we came out and did some random checks of some of the interiors, as well as write ups on all of the exteriors," Rhodes said.

Rhodes said he is tabulating how many code violations the property has racked up just from Tuesday's sweep.

Residents have asked community activist Lawanna Gelzer to speak on their behalf.

"Mold [was found] in one of the young ladies who allowed me to look into her apartment, [and] the dripping water," said Gelzer.

Rhodes said Code Enforcement is trying to get complexes up to code before things get so out of hand, they can't be fixed.
