Construction underway on SeaWorld's hypercoaster 'Mako'

ORLANDO, Fla. — Construction is underway at SeaWorld Orlando on the new hypercoaster, "Mako," which is set to open this summer.

A hypercoaster is a type of coaster known for high speeds and steep drops and hills that create a feeling of weightlessness or "air time."

The coaster was topped off Wednesday as cranes put into place the tallest point of the structure -- the tracks of its signature 200-foot tall hill.

Park officials said Mako will be Orlando's tallest, fastest and longest roller coaster, reaching speeds of 73 mph, along 4,760 feet of track.

The ride will be the centerpiece of a two-acre, shark-themed realm in the park.
