Controversial Florida TDT bill goes to committee; here’s what’s next

A controversial piece of Florida legislation that targets the tourist development tax and that sources believe may have lost support now has an official bill number and may still have a pulse.

House Bill 7053, dubbed Tourism Development, has been assigned to the House Ways & Means Committee as of March 31. The bill seeks to tap into county resort taxes to fund Visit Florida, the state’s marketing agency, for three years and dedicate a majority of those funds to assist rural counties, state parks and forests, according to a state analysis.

The next step of the bill is unknown. The committee has no meetings scheduled, according to the Florida House of Representative’s website.
