A convicted felon has been rearrested after he was accused of breaking into a police officer’s car and stealing her handgun at St. Cloud Middle School, Eyewitness News has learned.

St. Cloud police have arrested Shawn Wall eight times in the last three years for drug possession, criminal mischief and grand theft, among other charges.

Police Wall jumped the fence at the school sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, broke the officer’s car window and took the officer’s personal gun, police said.

Police said Walls also attempted to get the officer’s service weapon.

Officers found a shell casing from a single shot fired on campus, police said.

No one was hurt.

Surveillance video captured Wall taking of his shirt and going to a nearby Circle K, police said.

Wall eventually turned himself in.

Police have not found the stolen gun. The officer did not know the serial number for the weapon either, police said.

The police officer involved in the break-in has been with the department since 2007.

Eyewitness News asked if the officer violated policy by leaving her personal handgun in her cop cruiser and on the school campus over the weekend. Police said they could not answer because it’s a continuing investigation.
