ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The Orange County clerk of courts will be operating as usual on Tuesday, the day that same-sex couples will be able to get married in Florida.
"We are not doing anything unique. We are going to continue operating business as usual," said Tiffany Moore Russell, Orange County clerk of the court.
Russell said the downtown courthouse will open at 7:30 a.m. as usual and the four satellite locations around the county will open at 8 a.m.
Couples applying for a marriage license need to show up together with valid forms of identification. They will then have to submit a marriage application and, like every other couple, will not be allowed to get married until they have completed a marriage counseling course or wait for three days.
"The license is not valid until the date that it says it's valid on the license. So if they did not take the pre-marital course it will have an effective date on the marriage license. If they get married before that it would not be a valid marriage," said Karen Yanik, with the clerk's office.
Other counties that Channel 9's Tim Barber checked reported that they are operating the same way.
"As of today I have not heard of any clerk in the state of Florida not going to follow the order," said Russell.
