ORLANDO, Fla. — Court documents confirmed Orlando City Commissioner Sam Ings is the father of a child he tried to deny. Now, he has to pay nearly $20,000 in back child support.
Tuesday, WFTV reporter Kenneth Craig showed Ings the court ruling that is now ordering him to pay $262 a week and nearly $20,000 more in missed payments for a child he fathered during an alleged affair.
WFTV broke the story in March, when Solethea Sparkes came forward, claiming she had a seven-year relationship with Ings but has not seen a dime in support since the child was born, even though a paternity test confirmed he is the father.
Since then, the commissioner took another DNA test that he demanded.
Now, the courts have ruled based on those tests that he is the father and he needs to pay up to support the 16-month-old boy.
Ings is newly married and was recently re-elected. He earns $48,000 a year representing District 6 and must start paying the mother of his child in two weeks.
