PALM SPRINGS, Fla. — A small plane crashed into a mobile home near West Palm Beach Tuesday night, killing the pilot and a woman in the residence.
The National Transportation Safety Board said the plane, piloted by Osceola County business owner Danny Shalloway, took off from Orlando.
"It seemed like an airshow – that close and that low level. The next thing I knew the plane made contact with the ground and a big fire ball came up," said Ben Goldberg, who witnessed the crash.
Domingo Galicia said he immediately started screaming for his 21-year-old daughter Banny Galicia, who was inside the home and presumed dead.
"It was like a bomb," Galicia told reporters Wednesday morning.
"We're very fortunate, in a mobile home park, (the crash) wasn't larger and only two homes were affected," Daniel Boggs of the National Transportation Safety Board said.
Friends and family members said Shalloway lived for adventure.
"Dan loved to fly. He was an engineer by trade and actively involved in politics. He was passionate about his community," said Alan Byrd, who worked with Shalloway.
Shalloway was the founder of Machine Gun America, a Kissimmee venture where customers shoot automatic machine guns and other weapons.
Investigators said there were no distress calls made from the plane before the crash.
