Day care shut down by state moved into Palm Bay house, officials say

PALM BAY, Fla. — Raw: Woman describes experience with day care

The woman told Channel 9's Tim Barber that she found it curious that the Sunshine Early Childhood Day Care insisted on picking her daughter up at her house, rather than have her drop the girl off at the center.

She said she didn't realize that the day care had been closed down until she saw a story on Channel 9.

"I had no idea where my daughter was," the woman said.

Neighborhood resident Chris Quintero said the woman who drives the day care van is known around their neighborhood as the "speed demon."

"I can't imagine what sort of a day care (it is) if she shows no consideration for our kids," Quintero said.

State records show some of the people involved in the day care live in the house. DCF representatives said they are still trying to figure out who everyone is, because so many people are involved.

Over the weekend, officials served the homeowners with a cease-and-desist order.

They said they are also working on getting an injunction, and it would be up to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office to decide if charges should be pursued.

The woman who spoke to Channel 9 said she hopes more action is taken soon, saying it was a hazardous place for her daughter.

"She wasn't safe. She was in the hands of a liar," the woman said.
