Daytona 500 tickets go on sale next week, expected to sell out fast

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Tickets for the 2016 Daytona 500 go on sale next week, and they're expected to go fast!

Although the $400 million renovation is still a year away from being completed, Channel 9's Blaine Tolison learned spectators will be getting views they've never had before just in time for the race.

Al Gary has been a race fan since 1968, and he has only missed a few races at the Daytona International Speedway.

"You can watch it on TV, but there ain't nothing like it being here. There ain't nothing like it," he said.

Gary had tickets to the 2015 Daytona 500, which means he has the option to purchase those same tickets again for this coming 500 before they're sold to the general public.

"With less seats and all that, you better get your seats now," he said.

The 2016 Daytona 500 will be the first with brand new grandstands, 40 escalators and better seats with better views, but there are 45,000 fewer seats.

"There might be a situation in which there aren't  any tickets available into the new year for this event, so it's our fan's opportunity to make sure that they got a seat and can attend a great opening for Daytona Rising," said track president Joie Chitwood.

Crews are working to have the Daytona Rising project complete by 2016. Officials said there will be 101,000 seats available for the Daytona 500.
