Daytona Beach International Airport adds aviation activities for kids

New activities near Gate 5 are designed for children ages 6 months to 5 years

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Families traveling through Daytona Beach International Airport now have new aviation-themed activities to help entertain young children while they wait for flights.

The airport partnered with the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties to install two activity sets in the concourse near Gate 5.

An airplane-shaped activity wall is located in the hallway outside the airport’s Mother’s Room. It is designed for children between 18 months and 5 years old.

An aviation-themed activity cube inside the Mother’s Room is intended for children as young as 6 months.

Airport officials said the activities are designed to encourage creativity, sensory exploration, fine motor development and an early interest in aviation.

“We are grateful to Daytona Beach International Airport for recognizing that learning can happen anywhere, even while traveling,” said DJ Lebo, CEO of the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia Counties. “These engaging, hands-on activities give families a fun way to begin or end their journey together.”

Airport Director Karen Feaster said the additions provide another amenity for families traveling with young children.

The activities join other passenger amenities at the airport, including the Mother’s Room, a business center and library, and a complimentary postcard program.
