DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a shooting that critically injured a 16-year-old boy.
Edward Brown is charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, according to the Daytona Beach Police Department.
The shooting happened inside a residence in the 1400 block of South Palmetto Avenue.
Officers responded after receiving reports of a person suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was taken to a hospital and remains in critical condition.
Police said the victim and Brown are known to each other.
Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives do not believe the shooting stemmed from an argument.
Investigators believe the shooting appears to have been accidental, police said.
The department is not releasing the identity of the 16-year-old victim.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community and that all parties involved have been accounted for.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police said no additional information is available at this time.
